This exposed fastener metal roof in Florence was a complete transformation for a weathered, uninsulated barn addition that had seen better days. The existing roof had old three-tab shingles layered over three previous installations, leaving the structure in rough shape. Much of the original decking was deteriorated, so we reinforced it by adding new CDX plywood over the existing boards to ensure a solid foundation. Because the building isn’t insulated or finished on the inside, an exposed fastener metal system was the right choice—practical, cost-effective, and perfectly suited for a structure like this. The new roof provides lasting protection and a clean, functional look that elevates the barn’s overall appearance. While exposed fastener systems are durable, it’s worth noting that the screws should be replaced every 15–20 years to maintain a watertight seal as the washers naturally age over time. As this beloved independent bookstore prepared to move into its new home at 85 Pierce Street, inside the historic former Diamond Electric Soap Factory building, we helped get the space ready for its next chapter. 🏠 Building Together: Donating New Roof Installs with Habitat for Humanity At Peak Performance Roofing , giving back isn’t just something we talk about—it’s something we build into our work. That’s why we were honored to partner with Habitat for Humanity to donate new roofs for several single-family homes in the Florence and greater Northampton area. These homes weren’t just any construction projects—they were being built from the ground up by students from the local vocational school , learning the trades through real-world experience. We were proud to contribute our time and materials to support both affordable housing and the next generation of skilled workers. Our team provided full roofing systems—materials, labor, and all—at no cost. We worked alongside Habitat staff and instructors to ensure everything was done to the highest standard, giving the students a firsthand look at what quality craftsmanship looks like in the field. This collaboration was about more than roofs. It was about investing in our neighbors and empowering young people to take pride in their work. We're deeply grateful to have played a small part in a project that will provide safe, lasting homes for local families while helping students build the confidence and skills they’ll carry into their future careers.
